Great Books to Change Your Life
Creating this list has been a fun walk for me down Memory Lane. Some of these books have been around for a while. In hindsight, these are the books that have had the biggest impact on my transformation the last two decades.
- Inner Peace for Busy People: 52 Simple Strategies for Transforming Your Life by Joan Borysenko contains a chapter for each week of the year. Each chapter is an entertaining content rich strategy for life improvement. A few chapters: "Be a Better Juggler", "Try Power Whining", "Exaggerate the Negative". One of my favorites is "What, Me Meditate?". I have read a lot of books about meditation and taken various classes. Joan has a fresh clear viewpoint on Meditation which has been very helpful to me as well as my clients.
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey is an oldie but goodie! Researching 200 years of writing about how to achieve success, Stephen Covey does a brilliant job of synthesizing this information into 7 simple habits we can all benefit from incorporating into our lives.
- Don Miguel Ruiz, M.D. has a fascinating story. He was a practicing neurosurgeon in Mexico when a near death experience made him re-evaluate his Toltec teaching and healing roots. In The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book Don Miguel shows you how to have internal peace in life through his four simple practices. For improving relationships in your life, his The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship is also a great resource.
- If you want a light easy fiction read that will stick with you and impact your life, read The Celestine Prophecy An Adventure by James Redfield. I read this book during my corporate days at IBM way way before I had ever heard of energy fields or hands on healing. Little did I know that seeds of change were planted within my psyche. Take special note of the Insights relating to personal dynamics and how the energetics are being depicted.
- If you have not done work with your 'shadow' side (or you have no idea what this means), then The Dark Side of the Light Chasers by Debbie Ford is a MUST READ. This book helps you understand why you have the emotional triggers that you do, and gives you wonderful exercises for processing and releasing these triggers. This work improves your life and improves your relationships with other people.
- Years ago I was in the raw stage of grieving the death of a loved one when I picked up The Wheel of Life: A Memoir of Living and Dying by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, M.D. Dr. Kubler-Ross was one of our first pioneers in this country on death and dying. She did extensive research on life after death experiences. This biography tells her story and how it was that she stumbled into becoming an expert on dying. A fascinating read. Chapter 27 which summarizes her life after death research still gives me chills, and I have read it many many times.
- If you are not convinced that your thoughts are important, then Candace Pert's Molecules Of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine is a MUST READ for you. This fascinating book details the research of understanding peptides in the human brain and body.
- Molecular Cell Biologist Bruce Lipton's The Biology Of Belief: Unleashing The Power Of Consciousness, Matter And Miracles is another fascinating read with science supporting the criticality of positive thinking.
